Connecting speakers

Correct speaker connection

No matter what type of connection we use, there are basic rules for connecting speakers that should be followed if we want to get adequate sound quality. In the places intended for connecting to the speakers there are markings that symbolize polarity (“+” and “-“), and these markings are colored red and black. Unless you are using completely bare wires, each cable, near the top, should be marked with one of those two colors. The procedure is simple: you need to connect the red cable to the red connector, i.e. the black to the black. That rule applies to all speakers in the system. If you happen to connect one or two speakers in reverse, they will not fail or damage the electronics in the Hi-Fi device, but those speakers will therefore be in the opposite phase compared to the others, and the sound quality (especially the bass) will be significantly worse. In our country, these connections are known as: “frog”, “buxna” and “banana”.

Connecting additional speakers to your TV

Do you like watching TV and movies at home, but somehow the sound from the TV is weak and of poor quality? Modern HD televisions have brought an extraordinary image and realism to home entertainment, however we often get the impression that the sound quality is not overly high quality. The reason for this is the modest integrated speakers, which for structural reasons have very small diaphragms, and therefore cannot create a sufficiently sophisticated and powerful sound that will cover the entire frequency range. Considering that TV manufacturers are aware that built-in factory speakers will not provide satisfactory sound for everyone, and that many will want to connect something better, all modern TVs have some kind of audio output to which you can connect better quality external sound. Primarily intended for those who have limited space around the TV or simply don”t want a complicated and massive sound system, soundbar speakers can add fantastic sound with the simplest speaker connection possible.

Home theater kits

Connecting speakersConnecting speakers Home theaters are complete solutions aimed at those who want full surround sound without too much research on cabling and options. These systems are factory paired to deliver great sound, have their own amplifier similar to active speakers and come with all the necessary cables for quick and easy connection. Home theaters typically come in a 5.1 configuration for a full experience or a 2.1 configuration for smaller rooms, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs, and since they are closely connected to the TV, they also have appropriate digital inputs for easy connection, typically HDMI with ARC technology.

Connecting speakers and power amplifiers

Connecting the power amplifier to the speakers is done in two different ways. The first way is when we connect the output of the power amplifier directly to the speaker or speaker system, and the second way is when we connect the speakers via an impedance transformer. The conductive connection between the power amplifier and the speaker is called the speaker line. In the first case, we say that we have a connection of a power amplifier with a low-impedance speaker (such a connection is called a low-impedance distribution), and in the second, a connection of a power amplifier with a high-impedance speaker (a high-impedance, high-ohm, or high-voltage distribution). In cases of low-impedance distribution, special care must be taken of the electrical parameters of the cables, such as: resistance, inductance, capacity, resistance change due to skin effect, etc. The relative importance of each of these parameters is the subject of a great deal of discussion and speculation between manufacturers and users of speaker cables, and especially among One thing is certainly certain, that due to the small total impedance in such a circuit, the resistance of the cables for connecting the amplifier and the speaker must be small so that its influence does not exceed the acceptable limit.
